NIPAN STUDIO

The Art of Media

Nipan Chawcharernpon grew up in an environment that was surrounded by art, drawings, paintings, music, and movies since he was very young. These things had built up his artistic identity. Growing up in a small family, Nipan has learned to build and create artworks from household materials. He learned to draw with pencils and papers, which became the center of his imagination. Moreover, his parents were Christian artists, making music become a part of his life ever since. One of his family’s activities was watching movies, which has opened the door to his appreciation of the art of motion picture. But because of the inaccessibility of media-making tools during that time, Nipan had no opportunity to develop his skill in this area yet. Nevertheless, the seed had been sowed, awaiting to sprout in his heart.

During his primary and middle school time, Nipan began to manifest his artistic skills in drawing and painting. He continued to practice and improve his skills. He participated in various art competitions and won several prizes, such as the 2003 PTT Art Competition of the Northern Region. Nipan continued to study art in a technical college where he continued to learn and improve his skills and art style. It was until in 2006 when he had an opportunity to study in Minnesota, USA. He then moved to Oregon State to study fine art at Woodburn Arts and Communication Academy (WACA), where he expanded his artistic vision. This was also the place where Nipan began to explore filmmaking on his own and produce several short films with his peers.

After graduation, Nipan moved back to Thailand and began to work with a media-making foundation as an editor. Meanwhile, he continued to create short films with his friends, which expanded his scope and filmmaking skills. This was when he began to incorporate visual effects (VFX) in his works. He learned to use After Effects by himself through online lessons.

Nipan began his own YouTube channel, Nipan Art of Media, to create instructional videos on After Effects to anyone who is interested for free. His YouTube channel has been widely received from many people because his videos are easy to follow and very useful in filmmaking. People can follow and ask him questions directly through the channel. For over 10 years his YouTube channel continues to help many people to learn in this area, and Nipan has expanded to another channel, Nipan Art of Media 2, which was the beginning of his fame in VFX industry.

As the result, Nipan has been invited to be an adjunct professor of CAMT, Chiang Mai University and Maejo University. He has taught students about VFX and parts of film production. He is also invited to be a guest speaker in various seminars and training sessions on VFX and film production. He also appeared in many interviews online and on television.

Nipan’s works have achieved several prizes domestically and internationally, such as an official selection for international film from Shanghai International Film Festival, the winner of best Thai feature film director from International Thai Film Festival, and the winner of best visual effects from AFIN International Film Festival.

Throughout his career, Nipan has worked with other talented individuals, such as Nattawut Limsakdakul, a director of cinematography, and Jason De Ford, an American director of cinematography and a director. Nipan and Jason eventually formed a film project called Prathomakan Studio, which produces films from their shared visions. The studio continues to produce films until this day.

Nipan and his team include Nattawut Limsakdakul, Jakrapong Lopetch, Chatchai Namjaisinlathum, and Makhawan Boonwong. Together, they formed an educational charity project named NPS Giving, under the topic “Student’s Guide to Media Education.” The project aims at middle school and high school students to inspire and guide students to prepare themselves in university and media career path. This is a non-profit project which is available for any school that is interested.
